Sustainable Development Goals

Caritas shares the vision and commitment contained in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs link social, economic, and environmental development, which has long been a priority for Caritas. However, the challenges are immense—population growth, the increasing number of natural disasters, the impact of environmental degradation, and climate change.

Caritas' commitment to the SDGs is steadfast, partly because of the inclusive process that created them. Caritas will monitor their implementation and progress. On behalf of the poor and our common home, we will hold those in power accountable. The SDGs keep alive our opportunity to build justice, equality, care, and decency in our world.

Caritas is focused on achieving the new Sustainable Development Goals during their lifespan from 2015 to 2030. The SDGs will strongly influence the national planning of governments and the funding priorities of donors. With its grassroots network of 165 organizations, Caritas will advocate forcefully for the necessary action at national, regional, and global levels to drive the real change that the SDGs represent.

In caring for our common home, Caritas holds extractive industries and national governments accountable, demanding fair and responsible policies and actions. It campaigns at high-level meetings and global events to ensure economic and social justice for the poor.
